A bit of conversation overheard at Buckeye Donuts:

"Who doesn't have a blog?"
"People with lives."

I thought it was amusing.

Amusing, but getting to be something of a cliché, no? I mean, try substituting some other words or phrases for "blog." People don't ask, "Who doesn't 'watch sports on TV three times a week'/'commute in a car for 30 minutes or more a day'"? And if they did, the response probably wouldn't be, "people with lives." But then the comment probably isn't focused on the time involved or in blogging or its intrinsic worth; rather, the cliché suggests that blogging is a substitute for a life. I don't buy it.

Cliché, definitely. I guess I could have provided more scenery here or discussed why I thought it was amusing.

First off, the guy who said the bit about "people with lives" was hanging out at Buckeye Donuts for hours pretending to read between bites of gyro and cigarettes. I wondered what he does in his free time that must be so much more valuable than what other people do with there own.

Also, I wondered if he would have been embarassed, sitting there talking trash next to a person who does keep a blog.

I guess I thought it was amusing because he was sticking his foot in his mouth without realizing it.
